I’m really trying to break my bad habit of micro-blogging more than main blog-blogging! I posted this last night to my tumblr, but I’m re-posting it here:

Wouldn’t a re-imagining of this Vogue Gioiello (Vogue Accessories Italia) cover be so awesome with Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2010 collars!? Birdy, puppy, kitty, and lady-print collars! Someone get me on this job pronto.

I, like many, am completely beside myself about this Miu Miu collection. I find myself constantly day-dreaming calculating how many pennies I would need to scrape up to buy just one dress or perhaps a pair of chunk kitty-print pumps… I’m planning a visit to Miu Miu this week just to see everything up close. I will be bringing along a voice of reason and likely leaving my credit card at home.

DIY: Alexander Wang Spring 2010 Sock Braces

I feel like I always do my DIYs in pairs… so here’s another!

It seems some designers have hipped to the idea that one standout “DIY” look in a collection goes a long to spread a brand, and potentially spawn a trend, which ultimately equals sales. Alexander Wang (a fellow former Teen Vogue intern, holla!) has been so immensely successful due in part to his masterful branding of a look girls can attain whether they splurge on his impeccable details/quality or put it together from just old sweats, tees, and leather. The downtown tough-girl chic ultimately reads: Alexander Wang, so he still wins at the retail game.

Ok, that was kind of a tangent… but this really simple DIY is an easy way to get a Wang look without the Wang price tag. You probably have the makings of these sock brace/suspenders from his Spring 2010 collection lying around or can them pick up for under $10. I used:

American Apparel Unisex Knee High Socks

White Eyeliner

Fabric Glue

Elastic Band

Scissors

(optional) Fabric Seam Sealant

Trace U-shaped outline using white eyeliner – make sure to do this with socks ON for stretch accuracy – then cut out. Glue/sew on elastic band. I plan to run these through my sewing maching and finish the edges at some point, but they were definitely wearable without and didn’t fray even without seam sealant (but would over time).

The rest of my kinda Wang-inspired look: Aldo hat, cut AA shirt, F21 skirt and belt, Jeffery Campbell potion boots

On another note, posting this at 4am and planning to watch some Mad Men after, then just maaaybe fall asleep. A friendly fist bump to all my insomniacs out there!

DIY: Richard Nicoll Spring 2010, Grosgrain Ribbon Bracelet/Cuff

Just used a little fabric glue, grosgrain ribbon, and a little snippy-snippy to whip up a DIY of Richard Nicoll’s Spring 2010 armband/bracelets. I didn’t have a suitable brooch, so I layered it with this faux-bling from Forever 21. It took about 3 yards of ribbon, and I’m planning to pick up some brooches at the flea market next week then make some darker, fuller pieces. So simple.

Between Rilo Kiley, her solo shows, youtube videos, festivals, music videos, album covers, photoshoots, tv performances, & Troop Beverly Hills, I’ve seen Jenny Lewis look utterly adorable too many times to count. I’d always written off her stage get-ups as something from a secret vintage stockpile I’d never get my hands on, but I’m so happy to say: I was wrong!

Last week, after a long drive up the 405 (jamming to Rilo in traffic, of course), I met the inspiring woman behind said looks (and the new video), talented designer/stylist Jenny Reyes, and her fantastic line Geronimo. Much like Lewis’ music, there is something so distinctly California in Reyes’ clothing that just gets “me” at my core. Plus, she took some time off touring to hone her skills at Rodarte before embarking on her own with Geronimo – so you know she’s got skills.

She’s also amongst the sweetest, most humble people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in this industry. Jenny (Reyes) kindly let me, and now you, preview the Geronimo Fall collection (above). After I recovered from swooning, I pulled my favorites for a recent shoot, where everyone fell in love as I’m sure everyone else will come Fall. I’ll personally be getting the Ava dress (named after her adorable baby niece) & Berg suit (named after lookbook model, and LA darling Ms. Z Berg)…
