What I Wore: Madewell & Vintage

Hi! Long time no outfit post. Above is a look I tried on (and ultimately bought) at the Refinery29 hosted denim event last week with Madewell. Earlier in the day I was invited to mix and match some of their pieces with my own vintage for R29’s site. It was a fun bout of dress up and I ended up purchasing a lot of what I tried on (including the jeans, a top and some shorts from the sale rack) at the party later that night.

In other news, I got glasses! All the hours logged at computer screens (I like maximum brightness) finally took a toll on my formally 20/20 vision. It’s cool though, at least now I can say “yes” when people ask “are your glasses prescription?”… even though that prescription is pretty light and I find myself wearing them less for corrective reasons and more because I get a reverse Clark Kent/Superman complex when I put them on. Hipster super powers or something.

Here’s a twofer (okay, who knew that was in the dictionary? I definitely didn’t until right now when it didn’t come up red in spell-check) because Net-a-Porter (!) kindly sent over some very fun toys to play with (just for play, sadly not for keeps) and then I couldn’t resist slipping on my holiday dress… especially since I teased a bit via twitter.

Now let’s give a proper moment to the glorious Pamela Love and this Triple X cuff… A lot of my cuffs border on Shera/Warrior Princess territory but I’m obsessed with how delicate this one manages to read. If anyone is searching for an extra special gift for pretty much any lady, I’d recommend a Pamela Love piece. Or really, stick anything from Net-a-Porter under the tree and you’d make someone very, very jolly… Despite the luxury we’ve all come to know and love NAP for they have a beautiful stocking stuffer selection too. I’m a fan of all the little Smythson notebooks and of course the best part of online shopping: Sort > Price > Low to high…

As for myself, outside of holiday party dressing, I haven’t gotten into the holiday spirit much and my wishlist is pretty bare this season. All I want is mental clarity and you definitely can’t get that at the mall, so I’m totally cool just focusing on fam and friends. But since family & friends aren’t great at taking “please, don’t get me anything” as an answer… tell me what’s on your holiday list this year so I can get inspired!?

I bought this deliciously tacky vintage 70s wallpaper print bag at the flea market a few weeks ago, but I couldn’t tell you exactly what possessed me to do so… I may end up on an episode of Hoarders from all the things I get just because I want them to have a home.

So the question is: to keep or sell? I can’t decide whether it was love at first sight or if I need to get my eyes checked.

Altered H&M striped maxi dress, DIY bracelet, random sock garters and OTK socks, Jessica Simpson platforms, rings: Pamela Love, F21, vintage, Made Her Think, Orbit Maui Melon Mint gum

Orbit reached out to a handful of bloggers – including myself – to help reveal their new line of product packaging. I accepted the partnership because I actually DO chew their gum (sugar-free spearmint, baby), I love their ad campaigns (seriously, this is one of my favorite commercials ever) and they gave me creative license to show off the new packaging however I want.

There are like 30 new packages in crazy colors and patterns that aim to go beyond traditional “branding” and venture into accessorizing. Pretty cool. So I’ll be revealing my 5 favorite new packages in the coming weeks. Think of it as fun product placement that shouldn’t otherwise interrupt your (ir)regularly scheduled programming.

Onto the outfit - I snagged this maxi dress at H&M the other day, but standing just 5 feet tall means every maxi dress is super long (and generally unflattering) on me. So I cut it up the front for a different effect. Now my goal is to get the “train” as scuffed up and worn in as possible, which shouldn’t take long. The sock garters have been sitting in my closet for a while and I decided to pull them out as a gum-holster (gum holster, get it!?). More on my DIY bracelet soon, and the hat is Sean’s. He never wears it, so I decided to.
