A Rodarte Barrette Moment

A nice lady at the Jewish Council thrift on Fairfax gave me this vintage barrette when she heard me telling my Grandmother how perfect it was. It’s been affixed to my hair pretty much ever since. Barrettes and swooped hair for 2011! This show was without a doubt my favorite hair/makeup of the season and don’t get me started on my love for the Fannings.

So much to update. I can’t even apologize for being the most sporadic blogger ever anymore – I’ve accepted that’s just what it is. I hope you’ll bear with me (and you can always get a fix via NYLON Daily)! I’ve been doing a lot (including styling a Nike campaign that was so much fun) and will share soon! But probably in my own time – it’s healthier that way.

Right now I’m in NYC until Saturday (total last minute pre-NYFW jaunt), then off to Vegas for Magic/Project. Very excited about both! Random fact: I’m currently holed up in my good friend’s apartment in Park Slope and her bedspread is the perfect Rodarte-style chinoiserie print. Love. Wonder if she’d let me make a dress out of it…

Rodarte x Target Leopard Lace & Bow Dresses

As a big Rodarte AND Target fan, I was prepared to do some serious Target-hopping this morning to get my hands on at least 1 of these two dresses.

Lucky for me, I found the entire collection in a nice range of sizes on my first stop (at one of the less picked-over locations in West LA… big hint: Culver City). I knew these two were a must for me. The leopard dress makes me feel all Pebbles Flintstone and I love the bow on the back. And I haven’t had the static issues others seem to be having with the tulle dress, however I am debating cutting it up and making it into a mesh crop top… we’ll see how that one turns out.

As for the rest – my expectations are low for any mass produced diffusion line so, for the price, I don’t bother complaining much about fabrics or fit. I’m generally happy to find even one awesome piece – so I’m really happy with these 2 dresses and the sequin skull dress (which I also grabbed). But I do plan on taking these over to my tailor for a hemline chop (tucked under above).

Anyone else snag anything good?? What was the stock like at your local Target? Reactions to the collection in person?

Oh, and I was definitely one of those assholes this time… I impulsively bought one or two of all the key pieces, since I’ve regretted not doing so in the past and watching the prices skyrocket on eBay. After seeing shit sell out after day 1, I couldn’t help myself.

First Look: Geronimo by Jenny Reyes Spring 2010

Between Rilo Kiley, her solo shows, youtube videos, festivals, music videos, album covers, photoshoots, tv performances, & Troop Beverly Hills, I’ve seen Jenny Lewis look utterly adorable too many times to count. I’d always written off her stage get-ups as something from a secret vintage stockpile I’d never get my hands on, but I’m so happy to say: I was wrong!

Last week, after a long drive up the 405 (jamming to Rilo in traffic, of course), I met the inspiring woman behind said looks (and the new video), talented designer/stylist Jenny Reyes, and her fantastic line Geronimo. Much like Lewis’ music, there is something so distinctly California in Reyes’ clothing that just gets “me” at my core. Plus, she took some time off touring to hone her skills at Rodarte before embarking on her own with Geronimo – so you know she’s got skills.

She’s also amongst the sweetest, most humble people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in this industry. Jenny (Reyes) kindly let me, and now you, preview the Geronimo Fall collection (above). After I recovered from swooning, I pulled my favorites for a recent shoot, where everyone fell in love as I’m sure everyone else will come Fall. I’ll personally be getting the Ava dress (named after her adorable baby niece) & Berg suit (named after lookbook model, and LA darling Ms. Z Berg)…
