Kat Von D lipstick in Homegirl; vintage cap
Okay, I did it. I’ve wanted to try out dark lips forever. Actually, just lipstick forever. I’ve legit never worn it, which is hard to believe as I am quite a makeup junkie. Now I’ve yet to go out of the house in the look, but I’m finally thinking I could (albeit at night, after dinner, with no make-out sessions and I’ll need some liner and a good lip primer first).
My mom has worn a dark eggplant shade (I think MAC’s Cyber currently) for as long as I can remember and she wears it so well, I thought maybe I could too? I’ve tried out quite a few shades in the past month, both drugstore and not, and the top contenders are this one by Kat Von D (her pigments are actually really really nice, whodathunkit?) and one called Growl by the amazing Illamasqua who recently sent me some shades to try. I’ll try to post photos of that one as well. All of the drugstore shades failed miserably to be honest, but there was one by Revlon that was eh… ok. I also want to try Chanel’s Hysteria next time I hit up a makeup counter – anyone have a review?
Accessory note: loving my new (but old) leather biker scarf worn backwards as a turban. Oh, and who’s that little monster? That’s Cartier (aka Tha Carter III) — cute and mischievous, but does not belong to me.

I love that look, it doesn’t see too dark at all.
You look incredible in dark lipstick. I’ve found the same thing about drugstore lipsticks- light and pink shades are fine, but most drugstore brands can’t get the dark shades right. Try MAC Tribalist- it’s close to cyber but a bit more brown. I love it!

I can’t actually wear anything on my lips except vaseline due to my unfeasibly massive lips, but this is very cool. Maybe one day I’ll try it. I’ve always so wanted to try lipstick in ridic. colours like lime green, blue, etc.

@Annie – That’s usually me, too – vaseline and chapstick (maybe clear gloss) only. Lipstick is uncharted territory for my lips!
Dark lipstick looks awesome on you! Makes me want to try it out, but I never wear lipstick, it intimidates me haha. I’ll stick to my pink gloss.

That looks really great on you! Taking the plunge is always a great feeling.
I wear a Revlon color called Blackberry (its a matte) and it looks good on most skin tones. I have a dark berry NYC color also but it doesnt work quite as well as a lipstick but it rocks as a Burton-esque type eyeshadow.
My favorite dark lipstick is Mac’s Black Knight. It now reminds me of the party scene in Mahogany (which I saw for the first time last night, haha). Its absolutely gorgeous but is very high maintenance.
I hope you find something that you’re absolutely head over heels for. And leave the house! Its okay!

For the longest time it felt like everyone was riding the lipgloss bandwagon, and only I (and a few whisker-chinned old ladies!) seemed to wear the waxy bullet-shaped macquillage.
You should love Chanel but – if you want to try the best – check out Poppy King’s Lipstick Queen line.
(P.S: Could Cartier be any more cute? Methinks not…!)
